Dear Government official,
I know that you are busy trying to prevent a government shut down but at this point I needed to state how I feel. I am the mother of three employed as a Case worker in Foster Care. My job is to assist families in being reunited with their children or help locate adoptive parents. I love my job dearly and believe that I'm an excellent caseworker but due to the low pay rate, I'm currently in school purusing my Nursing Degree. It is funny that I live my life helping others and referring families for services and when I need help there is no one to turn to. I make 43, 000 a year but for any assitance in Medicaid or Food Stamps, I do not quailify. I struggle to pay my rent $1500 with no assitance. My fiancee lost his job and exhausted his unemployment benefits, so now he is a stay at home dad with our 8 month old daughter. You see when I was out on disability in August 2010, after I utilize my sick days, I only received $170 a week for 8 weeks. This caused me to fall behind in my rent for three months. When I returned to work, I started to pay the current rent. At this point, though I continue to pay the current rent my landord is threatening to seek eviction for the back rent. At this point the shelters are over crowded and there is no government programs to help you seek an apartment. If my family is evicted there is no where for us to go. I have tried to go to Public Assistance and they stated I do not qualify because their is no eviction proceedings. I don't want to wait until I'm evicted to get help. I tried to pay some money with my Income Tax but also dealing with a car that does not run well. I tried to get a loan from the credit union but now the banks are strict with any loans and I was turned down. I'm riding in a small car on it's last leg with two car seats, which prevents my oldest child from riding as a family.
I pay taxes just like any other person in the United States. I am the working class that helps the City go around. Why can't I get assistance when I need it. Can you please tell me about any governmental assistance programs that can assist my family. I need $5000 and I don't know where to go.
Im pregnant with my third child and my husband is layed off. At the present time he is caring for my two year old daily while I am the bread winner. I will be soon off of work due maternity leave and NYS disabilty is only 170 per week. This is not enough to pay my rent. I dont know what we are going to do when I go on leave. There is no assistance to help married people or people that need to stay home with their children for the 12 weeks. It is so sad but I may force to stop breast feeding and return to work in 2 weeks or I may be evicted. If you could tell me how can I get assistance from the government. Thank You
